The Orange Roughy's scientific name is Hoplostethus atlanticus. Which roughly translates as, hazy, hoppy pale ale with a tropical fruit aroma, citrus flavour, and malty backbone. In the past, the roughy has been subject to unsustainable practices - completely selling out. Thanks to the hard work of our brewers, numbers are now on the rise. Careful you don't exceed your quota, though.

This year, the Emerson's Brew Crew went to Clayton Hop Farm on an important mission to harvest a bounty of the freshest Nelson Sauvin hops. And when you pick fresh hops, you get Sticky Digits. Resinous, lupulin covered hands, and a rich, smooth, fresh hop hazy IPA, with grapey, gooseberry, limey flavours. They've got sticky, now it's time for you to get stuck in.

It turns out, Hunterville is a pretty funky place. Home to the first-ever commercial brewer's yeast isolated from the New Zealand wilderness, that goes by the name of Wilding. A funky, fruity farmhouse ale, with a hint of spice, light malt, and a subtle hoppy finish. Froth Technologies approached us asking if we wanted to be involved in this project and we jumped at the opportunity to be the first brewery to use this new, native, commercial beer yeast isolate. This yeast was captured with an air trap on the banks of the Rangitikei River.

Havana has been fighting the good coffee fight since their Cuba Street days, back in 1989. That's even longer than our good beer fight. So, this "about bloody time" collaboration is well earned. Deep, dark brown in colour, smooth and creamy in texture, with a sweet, caramelised taste, complemented by just a hint of bitterness. plus, of course, a hint of coffee to finish. A classic label indicates this classic expression of this version of an IPA. It's been a long time since Epic made an IPA using the classic C hops of Chinook, Cascade and Centennial, balanced with a touch of sweet crystal malt, that delivers a slightly richer colour, and a more obvious sweeter, malty note which marries perfectly with the grapefruit and piney notes from the hops. Its like stepping back in time with the way the original IPA's use to be.
